Tryouts for the 2011 season will run from Monday August 22 to Saturday August 27v   and then again on Monday August 29 and Tuesday August 30. The time and location for tryouts has not yet been determined (our old courrts have been demolished and new courts are under construction). Please check this website through the summer for further information.

There will be three weeks of tennis camps this summer for Granite Hills new and returning players.

Camp Dates:
July 5 - 8: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
July 11 - 15: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
July 18 - 22: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
July 25 - Aug. 7: Granite Hills no contact period per Grossmont District
August 22: Tryouts start. Time and site to be determined.

If interested please email Coach Tibbitts for cost and locations

No Contact Period

The CIF mandated "No Contact Period", where coaches can not communicate with players, is from July 25 to August 7. Consequently your coaching staff will not be able to speak to you by phone or email during this time. Please continue to practice! Kristen Krajnak (243-6580) and Rachel Lampkey (947-4068) have expressed interest in getting girls together to practice in El Cajon or Alpine. If you are interested please call them!
Tennis Tournament at Sycuan Tennis Club

There will be a tennis tournament at Sycuan Tennis Club that's well suited to our high school players. The tournament is on Tuesday August 9th beginning at 11:00 a.m. The ending time will depend on the number of players in your group. Allow for approximately 2 - 3 hours. Brackets at all levels of play and ages will be set up. Cost per player is $15.
Granite Hills Tennis Tryouts

Girls tennis tryouts will begin on Monday August 22 and run through Monday August 29. Practice times are as follows:

Because our courts are under construction and won't be complete until November, we will be having our tryouts at Valhalla High School, as well as our practices through the rest of the season. All of our matches will be away and we will be traveling by bus.

Please be aware that it is imperative that you attend each tryout, for the full 3 hours. All players are responsible for their own transportation to and from Valhalla and girls are not allowed to drive each other - this is District policy.

Suggestions on what to bring to tryouts:

I know practicing and playing away from Granite Hills will be inconvenient, but once our courts are in we will have an amazing complex with the pool and courts side by side.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me or call me (619-339-2779)

P.S. For those who make the 2011 tennis team, there is a parent meeting at Granite Hills High School on Tuesday August 30 at 6:30 (room to be announced).
Final Cuts Posted...

Final cuts are now posted for Varsity and Junior Varsity. Congratulations to those who made the team. Alanna and I had many tough decisions as we finalized the 2011 roster.

There will be practice Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Valhalla High School.

Please remind your parents of the parent meeting at Granite Hills High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in room 41. Only one parent need to attend (though both are welcome) and the meeting should last no more than one hour.

Our first match is on Wednesday August 31 at Santana, hope to see many parents there!
Initiation Party

Our initiation party will be on Friday September 2nd at 6:00 p.m. a Kjersti's house (2010 Coronado View Ave., Alpine). Please bring what you signed up for. Patty will bring a three foot sandwich and have pizza delivered. See you there!
Season Opener - Granite Hills Wins!

First match jitters didn't show too much 'cuz' the Varsity Lady Eagles handily defeated the Sultans while the J.V. Eagles rotated around, with everyone having a chance to play and they won 14 - 4! Way to Go Eagles!!!
Initiation Party Changes

The initiation party has been changed from 6:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (this will give some of you who want to attend the footbal game a chance to get there). In addition it has now become a costume party, best dressed wins a prize. See you there in your best costume!!!
Schedule For The Week

Tuesday: Varsity plays at Coronado. Meet in the Senior lot by 2:50 p.m. to leave at 3:00 p.m. Parent drivers will be our transportation. No JV practice because Valhalla has a match so courts are not available.

Wednesday: Match at El Cajon. Full Varsity and only a few J.V. Check the website for the lineup. The resot of the Junior Varsity will meet at Valhalla for practice at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday: Match vs. El Capitan. Check the website for who is playing.

Secret Pals: Secret Pal days are on away matches. So, this week, each day is a Secret Pal day. See Patty in the Senior lot on Tuesday for Secret Pal box, on Wednesday and Thursday, the box will be at the bus. You can give your bag to me or trade with someone to put in the box - remember, be sneaky!!!
Win #2

In our second non-league match against Mount Miguel, our Varsity team defeated the Matadors just the same as they defeated the Sultans - by a score of 17 - 1. With a 2 - 0 record and with 3 non-league matches remaining, the matches will continue to get tougher and we anticipate the Granite Girl Eagles will do the same! (note: the J.V. team did not play as the Sultans do not have a J.V. team)
Granite Hits a Brick Wall

At Tuesday's match vs. Coronado the Varsity team faced our toughest match to date losing 2 - 16. Congrats to Dani Torres and Kjersti Roberts for each winning 1 set.
Back On Track

The Varsity Girls avenged their loss to Coronado by coming back today to handily defeat El Cajon 18 - 0. Our JV also defeated El Cajon with an 8 - 3 score. Let's make it two in a row tomorrow at El Capitan!
Fridays

Since we don't have practice on Fridays you might think about the High Performance clinic at Sycuan Tennis Club that runs Fridays from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. for just $15.00. It's great conditioning and a great way to get an extra practice day in!
Two Matches Added To Schedule

We will have a match on Friday Sept. 23 at 3:30 vs. Valhalla - this is a JV only match. Players should meet in the Senior lot and we are looking for parent drivers. We will leave Granite Hills at 3:00 (if you are driving please make sure you have a form filled out and give to Patty).

The second added match is on Monday October 10th and this match is a Varsity only match at Patrick Henry. Players should meet in the Senior lot at 3:00 and we will also need parent drivers (some players can drive themselves - please see Patty for further questions).
First League Match...

... and though the Granite Hills Varsity team won 11 - 7 the match was much closer than the score reflected. Three of the sets were won in tiebreakers which pulled us to victory. Our J.V. team won their match more easily with a 14 - 4 win. It looks like the J.V.r's want a repeat of last years undefeated season. Go get 'em girls!
Singles Fall Short

Our Varsity singles ran into some tough opponents at Valhalla, winning only two sets. Tarin Marks and Melissa Mendez won all three sets in the losing effort. Congrats to our J.V. as they continue in their winning ways, defeating the J.V. Norsemen 14 - 4
Car Wash

Tell your family and friends to come on out and support our car wash to be held on Saturday, September 24th from 8 - 5. Girls, please show up for your shift! Remember, Freshman bring gatorade or water, Sophomores bring 1 roll of paper towels each, Juniors bring something for the bak sale, and Seniors... you're off the hook! The car wash will be at the Elks Lodge on 1400 E. Washington in El Cajon. See you there!
End of Year Banquet Vote

Even though we're just in the early stages of our season, it's time to begin preparations for our end of season banquet. We will have the banquet again at the Ronald Reagan Center in El Cajon. Click here to view and vote on your favorite menu option!
Pictures!

As often as possible pictures are taken at some of our matches and will be posted for your viewing pleasure! Click here to go to the Pictures Page
Varsity Close, J.V. Dominates

Varsity just squeaked by Helix 10 - 8 as Tarin Marks and Melissa Mendez continue their winning ways as they won all three sets. Junior Varsity now 3 - 0 in league defeat Helix easily 15 - 3
Picture Day

Our picture day will be on Friday October 7th at 3:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Golf Course. If you need a ride, let Patty or Alanna know. We are looking for parent drivers. Those needing a ride meet in the Senior log at 3:00 p.m.
Tiebreaker Wins Give Varsity Victory

Winning two tiebreakers in the match, one in the first round and one in the last set played proved to be just what the Varsity team needed to defeat the West Hillers. Kjersti pulled out the tiebreaker in the last set to deliver a 10 - 8 victory. The J.V. team had a tough match losing their first league match 8 - 10. Lauren and Ashley won 2 out of 3 sets, one in a tiebreaker and one by a 7 - 5 score.
Rainout = Reschedule

Tuesday's match vs. Steele Canyon was a rainout, the first round was almost done... The match date is yet to be determined. Watch the website for updates.
Silent Auction

Parents - only 2 1/2 weeks until the end of our regular season! Our banquet is about six weeks away and we need to start finding items for our silent auction. In the past parents have contributed tickets to various sporting events, gift cards for restaurants, spas, vacation stays, etc. The sky is the limit and your support makes all of the difference in our program! Please contact Patty if you can help to make calls and gather items!
Pictures Reminder

Reminder - pictures today at Cottonwood Golf course (on Willow Glen Rd.) at 3:30 p.m. If you need a ride, meet in the Senior lot at 3:00 p.m. If not - see you at Cottonwood (we will meet just to the right of the white tent). Bring your order forms and money to order pictures.
Varsity Wins a Close One / J.V. Avenges An Earlier Scrimmage Loss

Another close Varsity match vs. Valhalla with the score 9 - 7 with three sets remaining. We needed to win one of those three sets, losing two of those and only one set left we had to win that set because in a tie, we would have lost by five games. Kristen won that set 7 - 5 to give Varsity the win.

In J.V., Kristen V., Gabbie and Kasie each won 2 sets and in Gabbie and Kasie's set they did not give up any games. In doubles action, Anika and Tiffany won 2 sets in their first match playing together.
Mid-Season Team Party at Tori's

See you Wednesday at Tori's house, 1696 Dewitt Estates Rd. Alpine 91901, after practice, 7:00 p.m. We'll have pizza, chips and drinks - so come on out. We'll get together for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours then you can get home to finish your homework.

Also, on the match on 10/11 vs. Helix, match site should be Valhalla and please note the 10/13 match vs. Grossmont match site is also Valhalla
Second Time Around We Let 'Em Know Who They Were Playing...

In the first round of play, Varsity only defeated Helix by a two game margin 10 - 8. I told the girls our goal was to win as many sets as possible and they really stepped up, especially the doubles team winning 8 of 9 sets. Kjersti won all 3 sets in singles, and Tarin-Melissa, Riley-Maura won all three sets in doubles.
Getting Stronger...

... with each month the Varsity has gotten stronger, better scores in the second round than in the first round. Last Thursday, Granite Varsity defeated Grossmont 11 - 7, compared to winning in a tie to Grossmont in the first round. Tarin - Melissa continue to dominate in doubles winning all three sets and defeated a #1 doubles team who they previously lost to 1 - 6.

Our JV team handily defeated the Hillers, 16-2, with the first round score being 10-8. All the JV doubles teams swept, Lauren-Ashley, Anika-Tiffany, McKenna-Katie, plus all the teams that rotated in, and Kasie won all 3 sets in singles. A big match vs. West Hills coming up, stay tuned…
